Collaborative on Global Children's Issues

Sweta Shah is a senior early childhood development advocate and champion who has spent 25 years working in philanthropic and nonprofit organizations and with governments, the private sector, and bilateral and multilateral organizations. She is a fellow at the Brookings Institution’s Center for Universal Education. She is also the co-founder and board member of ChildArise, a nonprofit organization seeking to transform the lives of young children and families affected by crisis through impact storytelling and creative problem-solving. Shah received a doctorate in education from University College, London, and a master's degree in international education from George Washington University. Her research interests include young children (birth to 8 years) in humanitarian situations and participatory research with young children in crisis contexts.

Shah is a 2024-2025 collaborative fellow with the Collaborative on Global Children's Issues at Georgetown University (where she was previously a 2023-2024 research fellow), focusing on innovations and lessons from the Global South in responding to young children amid the dual challenges of humanitarian and COVID-19 crises.
