Collaborative on Global Children's Issues

Dr. Ryan Burgess is the founder and managing principal of Whole Child Advisors and a 2024-2025 collaborative fellow with Georgetown’s Collaborative on Global Children’s Issues. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Burgess’s work has centered on the protection, resilience, learning, and development of children facing significant adversities.

  • Leads and advises on systems change programs in child protection and educational development, working with stakeholders locally and globally.
  • Advises governments, foundations, and local and international organizations across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the Caucasus, and the United States. 
  • Holds a doctorate in international educational development from Teachers College, Columbia University.
  • Recognized as a Peace Scholar with the U.S. Institute of Peace.
  • Originally from Colombia and the United States. 
  • As a 2024-2025 collaborative fellow, will focus on creating child-centered opportunities to improve education and well-being outcomes for predominantly Latin American and low-income families in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.
