Rhonda Fleischer
Collaborative on Global Children's Issues
Rhonda Fleischer is a senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Collaborative on Global Children’sIssues. For over 25 years, she has dedicated her career to advancing the rights, well-being, and potential of children, youth, and families in the context of migration and displacement. Fleischer has led numerous program and policy initiatives at global, national, and community levels to protect, include, and serve refugee and migrant children and families, while strengthening the communities that welcome them. Most recently, Fleischer served as UNICEF's deputy global lead, migration and displacement, guiding UNICEF's programming and policy engagement on behalf of children on the move in diverse contexts worldwide.
- Represented UNICEF during high-level intergovernmental forums.
- Led UNICEF’s migration response in the United States, while supporting a route-based approach in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Provided targeted technical support in key humanitarian responses with a focus on migrating or displaced children and families.
- Held numerous leadership positions with refugee-serving NGOs, such as the International Rescue Committee, HIAS, and CWS Global, including serving as cultural orientation division lead at the Resettlement Support Center Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Led Catholic Charities Community Services’ refugee and immigrant programs in New York City.
- Is a licensed social worker with a background in youth development and family-based mental health.
- Holds a Bachelor of Science in human development and family studies from Cornell University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Washington.
