Mugisha Marion Mutabazi

Mugisha M. Mutabazi is a sociologist with a Ph.D. from South Dakota State University and 22 years of experience teaching sociology at Kyambogo University, Uganda, and South Dakota State University. A 2024-2025 collaborative fellow with the Georgetown University Collaborative on Global Children's Issues, his research spans Urban Transport, Refugees, Health Policy, Livelihoods, Early Childhood Development (ECD), and Governance.

  • Specializes in research on refugees, with a focus on livelihoods, ECD, and gender-based violence, using the community capitals framework and political economy analysis.
  • Currently a principal investigator on two duo-generation Research and Learning Partnership projects with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC).
  • Co-principal investigator on a project aimed at co-designing a community-led ECD intervention in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, under the AfriChild Center.
  • His current research projects are central to his interest in the localization agenda, which he plans to explore further during his fellowship with the Collaborative.
