Melanne Verveer

Ambassador Melanne Verveer is the executive director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security and convener for the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues Research Group on Women and Society. She served as the first U.S. ambassador for global women’s issues, a position to which she was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2009, and currently serves as the special representative on gender issues for the OSCE Chairmanship. She is a member of the faculty committee for the Collaborative on Global Children's Issues.
- Coordinated foreign policy issues and activities relating to the political, economic, and social advancement of women, traveling to nearly 60 countries and developing the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security as U.S. ambassador for global women’s issues.
- Served as the U.S. representative to the UN Commission on the Status of Women, appointed by President Barack Obama.
- Conducted extensive individual interviews for the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security 2020 report Beijing +25 Accelerating Progress for Women and Girls.
