Andrés Villaveces

Collaborative on Global Children's Issues

Andrés Villaveces is a senior fellow at the Georgetown University Collaborative on Global Children's Issues. He is a physician and epidemiologist with over 35 years of experience in global public health and injury prevention. His work on violence prevention has addressed adverse childhood experiences; violence against children, women, and youth; alcohol abuse; and injuries. He also has research experience on transportation safety, burn-related injuries, and occupational injuries.

  • Previously served as a senior scientist at the Division of Violence Prevention, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ​
  • Contributed to the implementation of the Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys (VACS) in multiple countries, as well as in using data and evidence for policy development.
  • Has prior experience on violence prevention at the World Bank, RAND Corporation, as faculty and deputy director of the Injury Prevention Research Center at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Worked on quality of care and research methods at the Geneva Cantonal Hospitals in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Author of several peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and policy documents addressing injuries and global health issues, epidemiological surveillance, and data to policy implementation.
  • Currently a member of the Global Reference Group on Children Affected by Crisis.
